What are San Diego County’s Zoning Laws for ADUs?
San Diego County has specific zoning laws and regulations for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) that homeowners must follow. You are allowed to build one ADU and one Junior ADU (JADU) on single-family residential lots. For multifamily properties, up to two detached ADUs are permitted. The maximum size for a detached ADU is 1,200 square feet, while attached ADUs must not exceed 50% of the primary dwelling's square footage or 1,200 square feet, whichever is less.
